Henrietta Ten Harmsel English Scholarship
Dr. Ten Harmsel served the English Department for 27 years, both as a beloved teacher and as departmental chair. This scholarship is awarded to English majors because Dr. Ten Harmsel believes English is a crucial element of the liberal arts education, because it prepares students for a wide range of professions, and because it enables them to verbalize their Christian faith in an articulate, forceful, and humane way.
Basic criteria:
- entering sophomore or junior year
- cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher
- pursuing an English degree
- financial need is not required
If the above criteria are met the following will also be considered:
- show an enthusiasm and love for reading and writing
- recognize the close relationship between literature and faith
Renewal criteria: Students who wish to be considered for renewal must file a new application each year and will be given equal consideration with other candidates.
