Ralph Stob and Boertje Family Scholarship
When Michelle Boertje Scripps’ father, David, died unexpectedly at the age of 57, Michelle decided to establish this scholarship to honor him and the family’s ties to Calvin. Because several in her family valued Latin as important for understanding the English language and the roots of much of our culture, learning, and religious heritage, the goal of this scholarship is to encourage students to consider and prepare for a career in teaching Latin.
Basic criteria:
- entering freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year
- majoring or planning to major in classical studies and/or minoring in Latin
- financial need is not required
- first preference will be given to students interested in teaching Latin as a possible career
Renewal criteria: This scholarship is automatically renewable if the recipient continues to be interested in teaching Latin and maintains an appropriate GPA as determined by the Classics Department. Renewal is subject to funding availability.
