Eastern Avenue Christian Reformed Church

Eastern Avenue Christian Reformed Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan, has been blessed by many rich and meaningful contacts with China. Some of our members were born in China and came by way of adoption or marriage; some of our students studies in Calvin’s China semester abroad program; some hosted Chinese students in their homes, and still more have worked and taught in China. Our Chinese relationships have been spurred especially by Philip Holtrop, who with his wife Marie spent several years teaching in China after retiring from teaching at Calvin. Through their influence, several Chinese students have come to Calvin College and Calvin Theological Seminary to study; one was baptized at Eastern Ave. who has since worked to develop Christian schools in China. Our hope is to offer the opportunity for more Chinese students to study at Calvin College. Preference will be given to students that exhibit leadership potential, academic excellence, moral character and financial need.
