Sally and Bert de Vries Archeology Scholarship

During his years of service in the history department at Calvin, Bert deVries has been instrumental in setting up the archeology minor, in leading a number of summer excavation trips for students to Jordan and Palestine, and in building partnerships with Middle Eastern organizations and governments as well as other US programs that offer field experiences in archeology for undergraduate students. Sally’s expertise includes the clothing, artistry and weaving of artisans in the area.

Basic criteria:

  • entering sophomore, junior, or senior year
  • pursuing an archeology minor
  • financial need is considered
  • the purpose of this scholarship is to defray costs of participating in IDIS 340 at Calvin, which is designed to satisfy the field work requirement for the archaeology minor at Calvin
  • first preference will be given to field experiences in the Middle East and second preference to programs elsewhere in the world (off-campus)
  • Biblical and Holy Land Studies programs are excluded

Renewal criteria: This scholarship is not renewable.
