Thedford P. and Ruth I. Dirkse Scholarship

Both Thedord and Ruth Dirkse are graduates of Calvin, class of 1936. Ted began his teaching career at Calvin in September 1947, when he was hired as a professor in the chemistry department. During his entire tenure at Calvin, Dr. Dirkse taught chemistry to the students in the nursing department. Ruth Imanse Dirkse was manager of the Calvin bookstore, was actively involved in the Alumni Association and wrote a column, “Bookstore Briefs”, in Chimes. It was Ted and Ruth’s desire that the scholarship be used to benefit students in the nursing program.
