Theodore A. Rottman Scholarship in Social Justice

This scholarship was established by Gordon and Cathy VanderBrug to honor their brother-in-law, Ted Rottman, who taught and directed social research at Calvin for 39 years. This scholarship recognizes his lifetime devotion to teaching and scholarship and his passion for social justice and reconciliation. The VanderBrugs would like to recognize and encourage sociology majors dedicated to careers in social justice who recognize the crucial nature a Christian perspective can have on a broad range of social justice concerns such as anti-social behavior, medical issues and social class disparities.

Basic criteria:

  • entering junior or senior year (with first preference to a senior)
  • cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher
  • sociology major dedicated to a career in social justice
  • financial need is considered

Renewal criteria: Students who wish to be considered for renewal must file a new application each year and will be given equal consideration with other candidates.
