Robert and Dianne Swierenga Education Scholarship
This scholarship was established to honor the memory of Robert P (BA Education, 1957) and Dianne Nagelkirk Swierenga (BA Education, 1961). Both were educated in Christian elementary and secondary schools and devoted their careers to education. Mr. Swierenga taught Social Studies at Pella (IA) Christian High School and History at Calvin College (now University) and at Kent (OH) State University. Mrs. Swierenga taught in elementary classrooms at Hull (IA) Christian School, Zeeland (MI) Christian School, and Zeeland Public Schools. In the latter, she tutored students in the Federal Title remedial reading program. Mr. Swierenga served on the Calvin College Board of Trustees and Mrs. Swierenga served on the Zeeland Christian School Board. They desire to encourage Calvin students to devote themselves to careers in teaching, preferably in Christian schools and have created this scholarship to further that goal.
