P.U.E.N.T.E. Scholarship

Laura Rivera’s experience in the Calvin nursing program transformed her life. The curriculum’s focus on critical thinking, community engagement, and living out one’s vocation instilled in her commitment to compassionate nursing practice. Laura established the P.U.E.N.T.E. (Pathways to Unity by Empowering Nurses) Scholarship to support future Calvin nurses who are eager to serve their communities and become bridges between cultures and patient care, using their education to create pathways of unity and act as agents of change in the world. By empowering these students, Laura hopes to extend the mission of Calvin’s nursing program, cultivating nurses who are not only skilled clinicians but also innovative thinkers, compassionate, and socially conscious leaders in their communities. Laura wants to equip Calvin nurses to apply their transformative equity and serve as bridges across cultures and communities, thinking deeply, acting justly, and living wholeheartedly in their vocation with compassion, justice, and excellence.

Basic criteria:

• entering their junior or senior year
• majoring in nursing
• financial need is considered

Renewal criteria: Students who wish to be considered for renewal must file a new application each year and will be given equal consideration with other candidates.
