Calvin University Pre-Med Scholars Program - The Kok Scholar
Mrs. Harry Kok established one of Calvin’s first named scholarships in 1952, honoring her late husband, Dr. Harry Kok, who was a 1922 graduate of Calvin College and the University of Michigan Medical School. After supporting 64 Calvin students over the years, this award has now become part of the Calvin University Pre-med Scholars Program, which brings together Dr. Kok’s deep respect for Calvin University and honors his love of medicine and care of people.
Basic criteria:
- entering freshman year
- cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher and an ACT of 31 or higher or a combined SAT of 1340 or higher
- U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident
- demonstrate a passion to serve God’s world through the field of medicine
- pursuing a pre-med program
- financial need is not required
Renewal criteria: This scholarship is automatically renewable for three additional years if the student maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher and continues to demonstrate a passion to serve God’s world through the field of medicine.

- This scholarship is for freshmen who are pursuing a pre-med track and plan to attend medical school after they graduate from Calvin. To be eligible to apply, you must have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.90 or higher, an ACT of 31 or higher or a combined SAT of 1340 or higher. To be considered for this scholarship, Calvin must have the record of your official ACT Score (31 or above) or SAT Score (1340 or above) by January 20. Self-reported scores will not qualify you for this scholarship.
