Jennie and Gerrit De Haan Memorial Scholarship

Dr. Gerben and Mrs. Janice De Jong established this scholarship in memory of Mrs. De Jong’s parents, Jennie and Gerrit De Haan. Dr. and Mrs. De Jong love to travel and have found traveling and living abroad to be an enriching and mind-expanding experience. Mrs. De Jong experienced the sudden loss of her parents in December of 1994 and 1995—her father in an automobile accident and her mother at her home while visiting as part of an extended Thanksgiving holiday. This scholarship provides a way of combining these two very significant experiences with a desire to provide an opportunity for students to participate in Calvin’s international study abroad program who might not otherwise have that opportunity.

Basic criteria:

• entering freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior year
• cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher
• planning to participate in a short-term international off-campus program
• demonstrate financial need
• if the above criteria are met, first preference will be given to a student who comes from a school or community with limited college-going resources

Renewal criteria: Students who wish to be considered for renewal must file a new application each year and will be given equal consideration with other candidates.
