Harold and Jo Miersma Family Scholarship

Jo Miersma set up this scholarship to support an education major to honor Harold who was a teacher. Harold Miersma was burned at the age of 6 months and these burns caused him to become handicapped. He was able to graduate from Calvin College and become a teacher. He taught at Hudsonville Christian, and both Lansing Christian and Oak Lawn Christian in Illinois. After Harold passed away, a former student of Harold’s visited Jo to let her know how much he thanked God for having had Harold as a teacher. The Miersmas wish the recipient a blessing as they embark on their teaching career.

Basic criteria:

• entering their sophomore, junior or senior year
• majoring in education
• financial need is considered

Renewal criteria: This scholarship is automatically renewable if the student continues to make satisfactory academic progress. Renewal is subject to funding availability.
