Mentoring Scholarship

Calvin received a challenge grant to provide students with an opportunity for a personal relationship with a Christian mentor as well as a scholarship award.

Basic criteria:

  • entering freshman or sophomore year
  • first preference will be given to international students
  • interested in the personal and professional guidance a mentoring relationship can provide
  • willing to commit time on a regular basis to building this relationship
  • demonstrate financial need

Renewal criteria: This scholarship is automatically renewable if the mentoring relationship continues to be satisfactory to both the mentor and the student. Renewal is subject to funding availability.

Supplemental Questions
  1. Describe any experiences you may have had with a mentor in the past and give your reasons for wanting to participate in the mentoring program. Your response may include a bit of your story, if applicable.
  2. What would you bring to a mentoring relationship and what would you hope to gain from it? List and explain two or three specific goals for how you hope to grow through a mentoring relationship.
  3. List any co-curricular commitments you may have for *next* year (sports, musical ensembles, internships, leadership, student teaching, jobs, off-campus travel, etc.) How do you plan to make growth through mentoring a priority?
  4. Do you have an interest in being trained to become a peer mentor?
