Mentoring Scholarship

Calvin has received a challenge grant to fund a mentoring scholarship that will provide a personal relationship with a mentor.

Basic criteria:

  • entering freshman year as an international student or entering sophomore year as an US or Canadian student
  • interested in a mentoring relationship
  • financial need is considered

Requirements:

  • attend a mentoring program orientation
  • take the initiative to meet with your mentor a minimum of six times per semester (for about an hour) and record these meetings on Moodle
  • set goals for personal and spiritual growth as you make this relationship a priority
  • communicate with the Mentoring Coordinator as required, meeting at least once in person for accountability and prayer
  • write a letter of thanks to the scholarship donor and a reflection on mentoring
  • attend a mentoring program event

Renewal criteria: This scholarship is automatically renewable if the mentoring relationship continues to be satisfactory to both the mentor and the student. Renewal is subject to funding availability.

Supplemental Questions
  1. Describe any experiences you may have had with a mentor in the past and give your reasons for wanting to participate in the mentoring program. Your response may include a bit of your story, if applicable.
  2. What would you bring to a mentoring relationship and what would you hope to gain from it? List and explain two or three specific goals for how you hope to grow through a mentoring relationship.
  3. List any co-curricular commitments you may have for *next* year (sports, musical ensembles, internships, leadership, student teaching, jobs, off-campus travel, etc.) How do you plan to make growth through mentoring a priority?
  4. Do you have an interest in being trained to become a peer mentor?
