Margaret and Donald Vander Haar Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Jim and Mary Winkle and Dan Vander Haar in honor of their parents, Margaret and Donald Vander Haar. Margaret was the first female chemistry major when she was at Calvin, and often spoke of her love for “Doc” DeVries and the classes he taught, as well as all her other Calvin profs. Don was a Hope grad from Holland who grew to love and appreciate Calvin through his associations with it all the years he lived in Grand Rapids. It is their hope that this scholarship will enable other students to pursue their studies in science education at Calvin.

Basic criteria:

• entering junior year
• cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher
• pursuing a major or minor in the sciences within the education (elementary or secondary) program
• financial need is considered

Renewal criteria: This scholarship is automatically renewable with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher and if the recipient continues in the science education program. Renewal is subject to funding availability.
