Calvin and Pauline Verbrugge Family Scholarship
Pauline Verbrugge established this scholarship to honor the memory of her late husband, Dr. Calvin J. Verbrugge (’59), and their daughters, Helen (’87) and Susan (’88). After graduating from Calvin College, Dr. Verbrugge received his PhD in chemistry at Purdue University, after which he worked as a research chemist in the polymer division of S.C. Johnson & Sons for 35 years. The scholarship recognizes Dr. Verbrugge’s passion for science and the critical role his Calvin professors played in inspiring his love of research. During his career, 17 U.S. patents were awarded to Dr. Verbrugge. This scholarship will support chemistry and biochemistry majors who have an interest in pursuing a career in research.
