Richard J. Visser Pre-Dental Scholarship

Richard J. Visser (Dick), a graduate of Calvin College, knew from a young age he was going to be a dentist. He chose to get his undergraduate degree from Calvin College because Calvin provided learning from a God-perspective, along with its reputation for educational excellence. This would allow him an advantage when applying to dental schools. He was extended an invitation on the spot, as well as put on a waitlist for another dental school. Dick’s Calvin experience helped to create him to be a servant, which would then shape his life, serving his patients, his community, and the people of Uganda who had no access to dental care. For Dick, it was never about the money but about the dentistry, serving others, and serving God.

Basic criteria:

• entering junior or senior year
• pursuing the pre-dental program
• financial need is considered

Renewal criteria: Students who wish to be considered for renewal must file a new application each year and will be given equal consideration with other candidates.
