Eric and Nancy Evenhuis Family Scholarship

Eric and Nancy Evenhuis have been lifelong supporters of Christian education on all levels. They have witnessed the difference that Christian education has made in the lives of their family. Eric and Nancy are eager to encourage students who value life at all stages. Eric’s mother (who was a registered nurse), demonstrated that she also valued life at every stage. When Eric was conceived on October 30, 1945, his mother, Evelyn, was 36 years old. In that day and age, 36 was a geriatric pregnancy. In addition to that, she was going through very difficult times: she was experiencing economic hardship (without the support of her husband) and her two children who were very difficult and created problems. She momentarily considered abortion as a way to alleviate the stress of her situation. Fortunately, she chose to keep her baby and Eric was born at the end of July 1946. Grace and providence followed Eric throughout his whole life. The greatest blessing was meeting and marrying Nancy Watson. Eric and Nancy have two daughters, Tera Lynn de Falkenberg (speech therapist) and Natalie Joy Lodewyk (Masters in nursing). Nancy, Tera and Natalie are all proud alums of Calvin. Eric and Nancy also have seven grandchildren. This scholarship is given with the hope it will help equip and strengthen young people with a purposeful Christian commitment in the field of nursing. Eric and Nancy established this scholarship out of gratitude of four generations of nurses in their family.
