William and Lynn Van Vugt History Scholarship

William and Lynn Van Vugt established this scholarship to encourage Calvin University history students to explore the historical relationship between the British Isles and North America—a subject that is dear to them both. The scholarship is available to history students who show special interest and ability in transatlantic studies generally.

Basic criteria:

  • entering junior or senior year
  • cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher
  • majoring in history; if no history majors are eligible in a given year, students majoring in social studies with a history concentration, or history minors, may be considered
  • demonstrate a desire to study (in order of preference): British economic and cultural relationships with North America; British Isles and North American history generally; the historical relationship between Europe and the Americas. If no students pursue one of these areas of study in a given year, other history majors or minors may be considered.
  • special consideration will be given to students intending to pursue a career in teaching or working in historical studies
  • financial need is considered

Renewal criteria: Students who wish to be considered for renewal must file a new application each year and will be given equal consideration with other candidates.
