Al and Kay Bierling Family International Student Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Al and Kay Bierling who were educators in Sub-Saharan Africa for over 30 years. It is their hope that recipients of this scholarship will return to their country of origin after attending Calvin University and use their education to help improve the lives of others.

Basic criteria:

  • entering freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year
  • cumulative GPA of 2.70 or higher
  • from a Sub-Saharan African country, South America or Central America
  • a refugee or from a refugee family, or must have attended a secondary school in their country of origin
  • students of all nationalities and faiths may be considered
  • students expressing interest in some type of physical activity will receive special consideration
  • must demonstrate financial need

Renewal criteria: Students who wish to be considered for renewal must file a new application each year and will be given equal consideration with other candidates.
