Van Baak Scholarship in Experimental Physics

Calvin physics professor David Van Baak retired in 2014 after many years as an extremely influential teacher and national leader in undergraduate physics (laboratory) education. This scholarship was established by the Physics Department, in partnership with Van Baak’s longtime collaborator—TeachSpin, Inc. to honor his legacy. This award will support a student who demonstrates exceptional skills and engagement in experimental physics.

Basic criteria:

  • entering junior or senior year
  • cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher
  • physics major who demonstrates promise in experimental work in physics or astronomy
  • financial need is considered

Renewal criteria: Students who wish to be considered for renewal must file a new application each year and will be given equal consideration with other candidates.
