Calvin University/University of Michigan Medical School Partnership Scholarship - The Gerbens/Gritter Scholar

God’s faithful providence guided Dr. Larry Gerbens, a retired Ophthalmologist, and Dr. Ken Gritter, a retired Diagnostic Radiologist, on very different journeys as they pursued their education and careers, but brought them together through a shared love and respect for Calvin College and the University of Michigan Medical School, from which they both graduated. Larry and Mary Gerbens and Ken and Marianne Gritter established this scholarship in profound thankfulness for the education and nurture they received from both institutions.

Basic criteria:

  • entering freshman year
  • cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher and an ACT of 31 or higher or a combined SAT of 1340 or higher
  • U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident, with preference given to underrepresented North American students
  • demonstrate a passion to serve God’s world through the field of medicine
  • be admitted to Calvin University by February 1
  • pursuing a pre-med program
  • financial need is not required

Renewal criteria: This scholarship is automatically renewable if the recipient has a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher and continues to demonstrate passion to serve God’s world through the field of medicine (three years only).

  1. This scholarship is for freshmen who are pursuing a pre-med track and plan to attend medical school after they graduate from Calvin. To be eligible to apply, you must have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.90 or higher, an ACT of 31 or higher or a combined SAT of 1340 or higher. To be considered for this scholarship, Calvin must have the record of your official ACT Score (31 or above) or SAT Score (1340 or above) by January 31. Self-reported scores will not qualify you for this scholarship.
