Gelderloos Family Study Abroad Scholarship

As an avid traveler, Barb Gelderloos established this scholarship to provide opportunities for Calvin students to discover people, places and cultures in the diverse parts of God’s world.

Basic criteria:

  • entering sophomore, junior, or senior year
  • planning to participate in a semester-long study abroad program or an interim abroad study program
  • financial need is considered

Renewal criteria: This scholarship is not renewable.

  1. How are you involved in the Calvin and Grand Rapids communities? List any extra-curricular activities that have been a part of your time at Calvin (clubs, choirs, sports, tutoring, church groups, volunteering etc.)
  2. Have you had previous experience(s) outside of the United States? If so, please list them. Include the length of time you were there and the purpose of the trip.
  3. Why are you choosing this particular off-campus program? Is it related to your career/life goals? If so, how? Do you have any particular goals for the semester? If so, how do you please to achieve them?
  4. How do you hope to treat this semester as more of a pilgrimage than a tourism experience? How might God factor into that difference?
