Peter V. Tigchelaar Pre-Medical/Dental Scholarship

This scholarship was established by grateful students to honor Peter V. Tigchelaar’s 33 years as Calvin College’s pre-medical and pre-dental advisor. Professor Tigchelaar has modeled academic excellence and Christian character as hallmarks to success in medicine and dentistry. He has invested personally in the lives of students interested in the health professions. As his family, colleagues, and students note: “He mentors, befriends, helps, and encourages students. Along with his family, they are his whole heart.”

Basic criteria:

• entering junior or senior year
• cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher
• have attended Calvin for at least one year
• pursuing a program in medicine or dentistry
• demonstrate involvement in community or extracurricular college activities. Volunteering in the medical community here or abroad will also be considered.
• financial need is considered

Renewal criteria: This scholarship is automatically renewable with a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher and if the recipient continues to be involved in the community or extracurricular college activities. Renewal is subject to funding availability.
