Norma Weiden Sterk Teaching Scholarship

Norma Weiden Sterk, a graduate of Calvin College, taught for a few years in traditional Christian private schools and then took a call to teach in a one room school in a rural area north of Grand Rapids. It was in this situation that she learned about the differences in learning styles. As she became more proficient at reaching those students that had difficulty learning in a traditional method, she took additional classes and then did graduate work in the area of gifted and talented. Norma now is involved in supervising student teachers and encourages them to teach the way children learn.

Basic criteria:

• entering junior or senior year
• cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher (in education career)
• pursuing a degree in the elementary education program
• demonstrate love for students evidenced by being involved in children’s lives
• financial need is considered

Renewal criteria: This scholarship is automatically renewable with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher. Renewal is subject to funding availability.
