William and Winifred Haeck

Dr. William and Mrs. Winifred Haeck are both graduates of Calvin College. Four of their children also attended Calvin. When Dr. Haeck was a senior at Calvin, faculty members were instrumental in obtaining tuition scholarships for him to the University of Chicago and Rush Medical College.

Dr. Haeck has never forgotten that assistance and now wishes to set up a scholarship as a small way to repay Calvin for the assistance and encouragement he received when he was a student. This scholarship is for pre-medical students who are in need of financial assistance.

Dr. Haeck played an active role in the Grand Rapids’ medical community. Known as a superb surgeon, he also served as Chief of Staff at Butterworth Hospital and as President of the Kent County Medical Society. His practice was characterized by thoughtful personal concern for his patients. His wife, Winifred Helmus Haeck, taught school in Chicago during his medical training and continued to provide strong support for her husband’s medical work in the community.
