Thomas and Joyce Waalkes

Thomas and Joyce Waalkes

The Waalkes Family has a rich family heritage at Calvin College, beginning with Dutch and Olive Waalkes. Dutch graduated from Calvin in 1935, went on to law school, and became a very successful attorney and judge in the Grand Rapids area. Although Olive was not an alum, both of them appreciated the tremendous education Calvin provided and looked forward to hearing from those Calvin students who went on to study law.

Calvin continued to play an important role in the lives of the next generations, as not only their son Tom and his wife Joyce graduated from Calvin, but numerous grandchildren and extended family members did as well. This scholarship honors the legacy of Christian education established by Dutch and Olive Waalkes and continues through the support of the Waalkes family as they encourage students who are planning a career in law through this award.
