Roy A. Reimer Family
Roy Reimer was drawn to his future wife (Joyce), in part, by his fascination with her organ/piano playing. Once they were married, he began a life in education and she in music, raising four children who shared their love of learning and music. Along the way, Roy provided for his children’s private lessons, instruments, music camps and much toward their college educations, always encouraging their musical and educational growth and showing great pride in their accomplishments. The Reimers came into a relationship with Calvin College in 2001, when Joyce enrolled in a summer course at the Seminary entitled “Planning and Leading Congregational Worship” taught by John Witvliet. Shortly thereafter, she began attending the Calvin Symposium on Worship on a regular basis. In 2004, their eldest son, David, was hired by Calvin College as the Violin Professor. Roy was called home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 9, 2008. As the family grieved his passing, the decision was made to honor his life by endowing a scholarship at Calvin College for future students like his own children – talented string players (violin, viola, cello) exhibiting strong academic skills (whether music majors or otherwise) and in need of financial assistance to reach their goals. The Reimer family looks forward to the continuation of Roy’s legacy, supporting and celebrating Calvin College string students for generations to come.
