Phil and Marie Holtrop
For a couple summers before retiring from the Religion department at Calvin (in 1999) and several years afterwards, Phil Holtrop and his wife, Marie, taught in China, endeavoring to reflect God’s love to their students, to learn from them, and to be “agents of reconciliation” between two very different cultures. They arranged conferences and networking between Chinese institutions and Christian schools and colleges in America. They were able to help a number of Chinese students come to Calvin College and Seminary. This scholarship is meant to assist Chinese students from mainland China who desire to enter Calvin College at any class level and who are committed to building “cultural bridges” between China and the West.
