Naomi Klein Community Scholarship

This scholarship was established to strengthen the bond between Calvin College and the Grand Rapids community, and to attract members of that broader community to attend Calvin College. This award is designed to help bridge the increasing gap between family income and the tuition costs associated with private liberal arts education. The donor has great respect for Calvin and its role as the preeminent Christian college in North America and wants to provide students with the opportunity to study culture and community from a critical perspective informed by the Christian tradition. As students graduate from Calvin they should be equipped to take leadership roles in broader society, speaking to such critical issues as disparities of wealth, the effects of race and class in America, and the importance of healthy community as a bulwark for democracy in order to gain independence from corporatism.
