Mae Groeneveld

Mae Groeneveld

A lifelong Christian, Mae Groeneveld believes her education at Calvin College along with the support and guidance of her family and church were the reasons she was successful as a teacher, as a citizen, and as a Christian. Mae never forgot where she came from, and in order to preserve that notion, she has established her scholarship fund at Calvin College to benefit needy, ambitious and bright students in the fields of elementary and middle school education.

Mae was born in Grand Rapids and attended public elementary and high schools there. She ultimately graduated from the Franklin campus of Calvin College in 1936. Mae, who retired in 1979, spent the last 35 years of her teaching career in the North Muskegon school district, teaching primarily at the middle school level. Accordingly, it is Mae’s desire to encourage students to pursue teaching as a profession. The scholarships in her name should be awarded to those individuals who are committed to the highest quality teaching at the elementary and middle school levels.
