Lynn and Bas Vanderzalm

With gratitude to God for His grace and blessing and to Calvin University for its impact on their lives Lynn and Bas Vanderzalm have established this scholarship to support and encourage Calvin students. After graduating from Calvin, Lynn taught high school English at Lexington Christian Academy (LCA) where she was among the first of many Calvin graduates who have taught and served at LCA over the years. A first-generation immigrant, Bas found Calvin to be a place of growth and encouragement for someone trying to find his faith and identity in his adopted country. After leaving Calvin, Bas and Lynn dedicated much of their professional and personal lives to serving those whom Jesus called “the least of these” among us. Bas directed an inner-city shelter and treatment program for homeless alcoholics in Boston and served with two international Christian humanitarian organizations: as vice president for international ministries with World Relief and president of Medical Teams International. Lynn joined him on many trips to developing countries and volunteered in keyways for all three organizations. Bas and Lynn trust and pray that the Lord will use this scholarship to help Calvin students who reflect the people they have been privileged to serve in God’s name.
