Jean Kempema

This scholarship was established by Jean Frederick to honor her late husband, James L. Kempema. After serving four years in the Air Force and graduating from Calvin in 1960, James developed a love for science and math which led him to a career in electrical engineering and marketing in the avionics industry at four major aeronautical companies. James had a lifetime commitment to Christian education and spent many years serving as a school board member for both Grandville Christian elementary and Calvin Christian High Schools. He was a charter member of the Calvin Christian School Foundation Board and the school’s athletic activities organization. James’ and Jean’s two children also attended Calvin. This scholarship provides opportunities to engineering students, particularly those who graduated from Calvin Christian High School.
