Hyman and Greta Berkowitz

Mr. and Mrs. Hyman Berkowitz, founders and owners of Rogers Department Store in Wyoming, Michigan, have established this scholarship in gratitude for all that God has given them. It is their philosophy that helping others is not only a duty, but a privilege. This philosophy has led them to establish this fund the income of which will be used to provide scholarships to students with disabilities or in other appropriate ways.

Mr. Berkowitz has always had a special sympathy for the disabled. When he started Rogers Department Store, he made it a point early on to make shopping easy for those who were disabled. This eventually evolved into two annual traditions at Rogers, Handicapped Fishing Day in the summer and Handicapped Shopping Day in December. Mr. Berkowitz knows first-hand the special problems of the disabled and wants to be sure that being disabled does not prevent any person from obtaining a college education
