Dr. and Mrs. Lee Huizenga Family

Dr. and Mrs. Lee Huizenga Family

This scholarship was established by the children of Dr. and Mrs. Lee S. Huizenga: Dr. Ann, Myrtle, Eunice, Faith, and Philip, to remember their parents’ lifelong commitment to “preach the gospel – heal the sick” in missions. Dr. Huizenga was a graduate of Calvin College and Calvin Seminary and pursued his medical degree while pastoring his first church in Englewood, New Jersey. His wife, who previously was one of the first teachers in the Navajo Indian School in Rehoboth, New Mexico in 1906, became a nurse to assist him in his work. Dr. and Mrs. Huizenga were commissioned by LaGrave Avenue Christian Reformed Church on October 10, 1920. Dr. Huizenga served in China from 1920 to 1945 and was recognized internationally for his research and work in leprosy and tuberculosis. This scholarship is intended to assist a student pursuing a career in ministry or medicine with an interest in missions or service work.
