David and Lorrie VanderArk

Dave ’61 and Lorrie VanderArk ’62 have been blessed throughout the years, and would like to give back to Calvin College by investing in students who want to become teachers. Lorrie grew up in Grand Rapids and always knew she wanted to be a teacher. She pursued a degree in education at Calvin and was the first college graduate in her family. For over 25 years, Lorrie taught various elementary classes in Christian schools in Grand Rapids and Lamont, Michigan, and then worked as a school librarian at the end of her career. She understands the importance of well-prepared and dedicated teachers who have a heart for students and their success. Lorrie is grateful for the ways Calvin prepared her to be an educator, and now she and Dave want to encourage other first generation students in their goal of completing a college education.
