Alvin and Hylda Tuuk Family

Alvin and Hylda Tuuk were longtime residents of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Their early years were largely shaped by the Depression and World War II. Alvin was a First Lieutenant in World War II and met Hylda upon his return to Grand Rapids, Michigan after over five years of service in World War II. Alvin and Hylda had little education after high school, but they soon pursued their dream to start a business and make a difference in the business world as Christians. They also started a family and all four of their children graduated from Calvin College and pursued graduate school education. Their children have realized their dreams as Christians in the worlds of music, law, business and medicine. Alvin and Hylda set tremendous examples to their children and others in their hard work, initiative and determination. They were possibility thinkers who could see beyond traditional boundaries and expectations. This scholarship is established by their family to honor Alvin and Hylda’s legacy and to encourage business students who demonstrate potential for leadership in a business career in God’s kingdom.
